Riusuke Fukahori

These pieces by Riusuke Fukahori are some of the most ingenious and original uses of mixed media I’ve ever witnessed.  Rukahori pours layer upon layer of clear resin, slowly painting fully dimensional fish into each level until an entire swirling school is formed.  His method is slow and meticulous, each liter of resin gaining him a few millimeters of depth to create further shadowing and pooling.  The effect is mesmerizing and hyper-realistic, I’d love to see some of his larger works up close.

Molly Rausch

Getting your artwork featured on a National stamp is a point of honor.  Molly Rausch’s paintings imagine the world that exists outside their 10¢ borders.

Nico Bellomo

Birds have been a source of inspiration for mankind since before the development of language.  Their ability to fly, their cheery morning song and the gorgeous arrangements of their feathers all stir something deep inside us.  But sadly birds are highly more susceptible to the effects of pollution based on their small size and about 90,000 migratory birds die every year from colliding with tall buildings.  To pay homage to our indirect manslaughter of one of nature’s most unique evolutionary branches, Nico Bellomo’s latest photographic study records dead birds.  Each still exudes a melancholic beauty and a touch of remorse.

DeAngel

I don’t know much about DeAngel since the website is in untranslatable Spanish, but the work seems to speak for itself.  Emergiendo II and III.

Xin

Festive and vacant faces by Xiu.

Photographer Hal

Love really sucks for Photographer Hal’s latest portrait series titled, “Flesh Love.”  Before shooting each couple he first vacuum seals them into a large plastic bag.  Looks pretty uncomfortable but then again it also looks pretty awesome.  The plastic distorts the immobile lovers into toy like objects, making a strange form of intimacy into a plasticine portraiture.

SuperReally

I just bought this print.  Thanks SuperReally!

Bina Baitel

A good light fixture tempts you closer to the warmth of it’s glow, to wrap yourself in it’s electric embrace like a moth to the flame.  Bina Baitel Studio invites you to do just that by creating a floor and surface light that incorporates a blanket and a bulb.  Reminiscent of a tipped glass of wine, the light from the shade spills across the floor.  All I need now is a pillow, a book and a box of graham crackers.
