Mieke Meijer

Dude!  How’s this for recycling!?  It’s called Newspaper Wood and it’s exactly what you think.  Not entirely sure how they construct it, probably compression and resin…?  But how wild is it that the sworls made from the print look just like grain patterns!  I would love to get my hands on some of this to check out how it holds up to pressure and deflection but I’m guessing it would be just as strong as particle board (must require a shit ton of resin though?).  It was developed by Mieke Meijer for the Dutch design company Vij5.  Apparently it can be milled, sawed and sanded just like wood.  SO COOL!!
