Maurizio Bongiovanni

Maurizio Bongiovanni latest series of paintings titled, “Bird Rib,” blends pastoral images of perched birds with a modern technicolor breakdown.  It’s as if mid song each unsuspecting avian was doused with a highly toxic (and gorgeous) chemical which immediately set about melting it in a paint-by-numbers kind of way.  The image of each song bird being stretched towards a life shredding vortex is strangely brilliant, a deliciously modern melding of an old beloved theme with a photoshop twist.  Really wonderful how each painting employs two contrasting techniques in a perfectly blended union. Check out my favorites after the jump.
