Markus Leitsch

Austrian artist Markus Leitsch utilizes cow hides to recreate covers/cloaks/suits fashioned by soaking the hide in resin before casting them over his own body.  The forms are somewhat erotic by providing a nude set in fur evoking a primal instinct of man as he once was.  The fur hide “suits” seem alien, almost like viewing Chewbacca, yet the human presence coated within conveys confusion and sadness as if separated from normalcy like an outcast.  The image above entitled “coat” feels protective, like a child in utero, hidden under an armor of skin.  These resin/fur casts blend man with beast exploring the human form by distancing us even further from it.
