John Stezaker

There’s been a lot of creative collage work hitting the web these last few months, but I really appreciate the originality of John Stezaker’s pieces.  He fuses together vintage photographs with vintage postcards, overlaying faces with architectural and natural themes to blur identity.  The result replaces sentimentality with a disconnection, we don’t know these people or places but their smiles and snapshot memories are a link we can identify with.  But with Stezaker’s imposements they return to the realm of the forgotten, a person and a place apart.
