Di Liu

When I was living in Thailand they have a tradition where everytime a building is constructed they erect a tiny house on a pole outside of it to give any displaced spirits somewhere to live in order to appease them.  25 year old Chinese Photographer, Di Liu’s new series titled, “Animal Regulation,” examines the relationship between people and animals in burdgeoning China.  The rapid development of towns and cities across the countryside has destroyed the natural environment for thousands of species.  Liu uses photo manipulation to distort the scale of the displaced creatures until they become overwhelming parts of city life.  His sad sense of humor turns the situation on it’s head, no longer are the cities getting in the way of the animals, the animals are getting in the way of us.
