Claire Pestaille

I know I’ve been displaying a lot of collage work as of late and each time trying to justify why this or that artist deserves higher praise than all the others out there playing with scissors.  But I really love the way London artist, Claire Pestaille reworks vintage photographs.  Her methods of striation and breaking the image into repeating blocks draws the eye in all the right ways.  You immediately recognize the original image and then begin to pick apart the various layers and doublings, each building on itself to transform what was once a pretty straight forward glamor shot into a rather unique perspective.
